KISD Blog by Liz Ramos

5/11/2020

This is written a couple hours prior to today’s board meeting.  I don’t know if I was allowed into the board meeting as I am publishing this in advance.  There will be back to back blogs after this. Yes, I am back in the blogger’s saddle once again.

If we flip backwards into time you will remember Nick Prado went around town saying, around the same time he was going around saying Ms. Bera is to be fired, that a West Oso homegrown person would be the next superintendent of KISD.  A pre-planned motion was put into place around that time.  Not much that happens on the KISD board is natural or organic.  Much of it is forced or calculated.

When you flopped backwards you will remember 5 board members voted to hire on Ms. Adams as interim superintendent of KISD.  There was no hesitation that they wanted her for the job.  Brandon Greenwood and Steven Crites voted not to hire her for that position.  Why?  I will guess they either wanted her to be the superintendent or to look around for another interim superintendent.  Later the district put out an announcement, which everyone on the board was mostly happy about, on the KISD website that they were in search of a superintendent for the district.  Adams obviously applied for the position. So did 15 other people as we later find out.

Flip forward to one of the next board meetings, Cory Garza Jr. was highly upset that the board only went that far (Only on KISD website and newspaper article.) to look for a super.  They decided to get bids from search firms to help fill position.  Cory was happy about that.  As I was too.  If they weren’t going to hire Adams, the least they could do for everyone involved is to search far and wide for the best person for the job.  YES! I agreed with Cory once again. Can you believe it!? They only got two bids for search firms and then Prado decided to make a motion to put the search off altogether until the “new board” in May. I knew something was up at this point.

Their plans changed.  The elections were put on hold till November and someone on the board put on the agenda to name Adams as the lone finalist.  That seriously go their panties all in a wad.  I was going to be upset if they did that less than 2 months from a ‘new’ board when they had many months to decide to hire her prior to that mess.  Adams would have been pushed off onto the new board, but now that elections were pushed back it was looking better to name her.  If they gave her a short contract the ‘new’ board would only have her for a few months or more.  In a way this would have been fabulous.  This would give the new board, if any new members, time to see how she operates and how she does her job.

The three amigos got all upset of the thought that their hand-picked candidate wouldn’t have an opportunity to get the job if Adams is voted super.  Here comes the drama.  They did to her what they do to me.  They followed her around. They got other people to follow her around. They tried or are trying their best to discredit Adams in any way possible.  There is a rumor she does not have the right credentials or they are forged.  Lord forbid she go house shopping.  I am sure they are snapping pictures and digging way into her past.  They don’t need to hire the board lawyer to do any vetting, they do that themselves!  They also get their friends to do some of the footwork for them.  More to come on this subject in a later blog.

They will also discredit her getting a pay raise for doing the job of an interim and several other positions.  By giving her a pay raise it would be cheaper than hiring all the positions she is currently doing. She wears a lot of hats.

Flip forward after the naming of a sole finalist, Cory now pushes a search, but this time contradicts himself and wants a fast track.  Over all the hoopla about doing what is right and allowing for a more descriptive and wide spread search of a super that is highly qualified and credentialed he opts for the 16 they got during the first search by KISD.  Which one is it Cory? Do you want to cast a wide net or settle for the lesser even though you said otherwise before?  He wants the 16 because the homegrown candidate is in that pile.  He has been carrying them around in a Malina envelope for months. Waving it around after board meetings.  “What do I do with all the applicants?  I’m not giving them back.  I will be submitting this to the media.”

If Adams was so bad, why didn’t they take her off the interim position?  Why is it all of a sudden, she is so wrong for KISD?

These guys had a plan from the get-go.  I don’t know this woman and I am sure she also may be great for KISD.  This situation is entirely planned and cared for.  They are doing whatever they can to allow West Oso to float to the top.  By giving the board the top 10 they will place her alongside others whose resume isn’t as great or as homegrown.

KISD board needs to stop.  This search is incredibly tainted by Nick Prado.  If he could just learn to be quiet.  This isn’t how a board should behave, act or work.  They need to get their hands out of it and stop forcing things to happen.  Their personal agenda is written all over this search. I see it, people in the community see it and the board knows it.  Why they haven’t stopped it from allowing to continue!?  Nick Prado ruined it.  Cory Garza Jr. is making a mess of it.  All the other board members are allowing it to happen.

Crites did a little filppity flop.  He voted for Adams as lone finalist then agreed to do a fast track search.  Almost everyone involved is being flip floppery with this foolery.  What a nightmare.  I wonder how Adams feels.  I wonder why she hasn’t left.  I wonder why she is staying during all this bullying.  Someone messaged me and said, “Yay, Ms. Adams will be super.” I replied with, “No, not yet, she is just a lone finalist.”  They replied, “Usually when you have been named a lone finalist you get the job.”  My reply was, “Have you not been watching these board meetings?  Do you not know who some of these board members really are? They will do whatever they can in their power to stop her from being the super.”  And here we are….
